Screenwriters
Guild of America

Our
battle, our struggle, is to create art.
Our weapon is the screenplay for the moving picture. |
|
Any
script that you write is the product of literally thousands of decisions.
In essence, your success as a Screenwriter comes down to your success
as a decision maker. Joining the Screenwriters Guild of America
is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make to launch
your career as a professional Screenwriter. The Entertainment industry
is one of the most competitive businesses in the world. If you're
going to compete against working professionals, you have to know
the standards. And, those standards are very high. In order to work
and work consistently, you have to surpass those standards. |
 |
First
and foremost, our mission is to educate and incubate Screenwriters.
You can't succeed as a professional Screenwriter without professional
feedback. If you talk to most story editors around town (Los Angeles
& NY), they'll tell you over ninety-percent (90%) of the scripts
they read fail because of bad story structure. Mix in the same hideous
scenario for screenplay format and it's no wonder the vast majority
of scripts fail. Our mission is to help you become a master at your
craft, thereby reducing the probability of failure at the most rudimentary
level, i.e., story structure and screenplay format. Master these skills,
and you'll quickly join that 10% who have the knowledge and craftsmanship
to seamlessly transform great premises into great screenplays. |
| It's
often been said that screenwriting is the loneliest job in the world.
It doesn't have to be anymore. As a Member of the Screenwriters Guild
of America, you will have unlimited access to an international community
of Screenwriters and Entertainment professionals. Set your home page
to screenwritersguild.org and we'll bring you all the resources it
takes to be a professional working Screenwriter in the entertainment
industry today. You'll no longer be on the outside looking in. Whether
you're looking to break down the walls to Hollywood for the first
time, or you're a seasoned veteran, the SGA is a plethora of priceless
knowledge and insight. Look no more, there's a key to that door. |
|
| The greatest
SGA Member Benefit is the personal-professional mentorship we provide
to each and every member. Whether you're starting your first script,
or just finishing and looking for a way to market it, SGA professionals
are standing by to assist you with questions. Whenever possible, our
new policy is to ask that SGA Members submit their questions to SGA
Member or Open Forums. This will generate a valuable thread for Screenwriters
and reduce the number of emails for us to address. SGA Members posting
in all SGA Forums remain confidential identified only by their membership
level and ID number, i.e., Associate #. Non-Members registering for
Open Forums will be identified by their username and email address.
We do understand that occasionally our Members need to reference specific,
confidential facts in order to communicate their inquiries. In this
situation, it is entirely appropriate to send us a personal email
to membersonly@screenwritersguild.org.
Please include your membership ID. SGA Members will also have access
to our industry databases of Agents, Managers, Film/TV Productions
Companies, Broadcast Networks and Studios. All SGA Members will also
receive a beautiful, gold embossed Certificate of Membership suitable
for framing. International applications are welcomed. WE ARE CHANGING
OUR NAME TO SCREENWRITERS FEDERATION OF AMERICA. NEW WEBSITE WILL
BE LAUNCHED SHORTLY. |
